Back to the good 'ol times....

Hey kids, how'd we ever get to be so domestic?
We really need to unleash, unwind, and rewind...just as we once did...

...Longing for days past...

Blast to the Past

Whatever happened to hip hop and rnb? The kind that you can sing along to? sway your hips to? and sing aloud...at the top of your lungs when you're alone in your car with no ear-witnesses...
It could just be me, but over the past few years or so, hiphop and rnb has seemed to take a dive in the wrong direction. Of course, this is just one person's opinion, but really...whatever the hell happened? I don't  even listen to the radio anymore and the radio used to be something that I listened to religiously while growing up.  Now though, I'm never tuned in because I just can't appreciate new school stuff like I used to be able to appreciate old school. I hope to God that it ain't cuz i'm getting older and "not hip" enough to appreciate the new stuff out there....But when I compare the old artists that we used to have (..think Blackstreet, Jodeci, Brian McKnight) with the new artists that we have now (...J.Lo and NSYNC), I don't think "hipness" has anything to do with it. The bottom line is, new school stuff just ain't as good as the old school stuff...

This was all brought to my attention last night when a few of my girls and and I went to the Blackstreet/SWV/Tony Toni Tone/Guy concert.  The concert was hype and it brought back memories of old generation hiphop/rnb and good times spent while jammin' to old tunes. For people out there that are just as old as me...remember singing to tunes back in elementary school like "Lately - Jodeci", or "Poison  -  BellBivDeVoe"...what about  dancing to  "I Swear - All 4 One" at your old elementary school dances? or humming to "So much in Love - also All 4 One"....?? Good times...
Then in high school.... Boys II Men, Blackstreet, SWV, 702, Az Yet, New Edition, Mary J, Aliyah, Lauren Hill, Aliyah...all the good stuff...

After coming back from the concert last night, I tried to fish out my old CDs from back in the day and I've been playing CD after CD of GREAT stuff.  I'm pretty sure that for the next two days, I'll be on a downloading spree of old school stuff that I can burn onto CD (If anyone can think of any good/old stuff - Please hit me up!)

But yeah, I was hoping that it'd be something like what was played at the intermission during the concert. They played purely 90's hiphop/jackswing...remember girls? After every song, a chorus of "ooohhhsss....I remember this song!!" and not to mention, great dance moves by our 80's friends'...
.....oh yes, blast to the past.
